All weather models currently on screen, ECMWF, ICON, and GFS, are indicating severe weather conditions, in which icy, freezing winds from Siberia are likely to directly affect the entire region.
From Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi to Faisalabad and Lahore, severe cold is expected, and even in Karachi the temperature is expected to fall to the freezing point. According to details, between 20 and 25 January, a powerful low-pressure system may pull extremely cold, icy winds directly from Siberia and Central Asia toward the region, due to which such a weather situation may develop that has not been seen in January for many past years.
During this Arctic blast, the minimum temperature in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, and in northern Punjab including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, may drop to minus 5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to remain limited to 5 to 7 degrees Celsius. Such a situation was last seen in January 1964.
In Murree, the minimum temperature may drop to minus 13 degrees Celsius.
In upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral and Dir, the minimum temperature may fall to between minus 12 and minus 15 degrees Celsius.
In Lahore, the temperature may drop to between minus 4 and minus 2 degrees Celsius.
In Quetta city, the minimum temperature may fall to between minus 20 and minus 15 degrees Celsius.
In Karachi, the minimum temperature may drop to the freezing point, while in Hyderabad it may fall to between minus 2 and zero degrees Celsius.
This situation is expected in almost all cities of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. However, viewers, the Meteorological Department has not yet issued any official alert in this regard. If any alert is issued, it will be shared immediately.
